Science Class

The 7th graders dissected a fetal pig in science class.
They identified organs of the digestive, excretory, circulatory and respiratory systems
and stated the function of the organs.

Friendship Ceremony

The 1st Grade and Kindergarten met in the Duggan Auditorium on the morning before the Thanksgiving holiday to give thanks for their friends. The students recited a Native American prayer of Thanksgiving together before exchanging bracelets and a picture that they had made for each other as a show of thanks for being a great friend.

Waffle Breakfast

All the children in Preschool through 4th grade celebrated being part of St. Tars together by having breakfast together the other week in preparation for Thanksgiving. Mrs. Connelly and Mrs. Pasulka hosted the annual event which allows students in these grades to get together as a community and give thanks for each other and what they have.

Achieve 3000

St. Tars is implementing Achieve 3000 for the 2014-2015 school year. The fourth grade recently used iPads to read an article about the effects of air pollution on the fish and plants of Rocky Mountain National Park. Achieve 3000 allows students to read informational text at their individual levels and engage in activities that aid in the further development of their vocabulary and reading skills.

Writing Stories for the Kindergarten Class

In keeping with our philosophy of mentorship, the Sixth Grade spent time writing stories for the Kindergarten class. The stories were about Ancient Egypt and were based on material that the students learned in class. Also, Sixth Graders practiced wrapping their classmates in the same style that ancient Egyptians used to preserve their dead.

Spelling and Counting with iPads

iPads were in full effect this week as First Graders used them to practice their spelling words and number writing. Many of the students enjoyed using the devices as they reinforced their work for the week.

2nd Grade Sock Hop

All of the 2nd Graders danced and laughed their way through an after-school Sock Hop on October 27. Students danced the Chicken dance, the Macarena and other dances as they listened to their favorite songs. Mrs. Gold even put on her dancing shoes and boogied with the kids throughout the afternoon.
