Pictures and Videos of Previous Events School General - DARE Graduation and Battle of the Books Finals « Back to Picture and Video Gallery As part of our DARE Graduation students invite celebrities to speak about the importance of saying no to drugs. One of our 5th grade students, Isabella Salerno, invited Robin Baumgarten of the WGN Morning News Team. to speak at the graduation. Ms. Baumgarten was unable to attend, but invited the entire 5th grade class to come to WGN and watch the morning news as it is presented live to their television audience. We not only watched the morning news in production, we were introduced to the entire morning news team, Robin Baumgarten, Larry Potash, Paul Konrad and Pat Tomasulo. Ms. Baumgarten joined the kids on a tour of the old Bozo Circus Studio and the kids danced on camera as part of the Carlton Banks' Dance Challenge. A lot of fun was had by all!
We also had the Battle of the Books finals at St. Tars. Students from St. Tars, Immaculate Conception, St. Hillary and St. Mary of the Woods compete as they read books from some of the best authors of children's novels today. We are very fortunate that our Parents' Club donates t-shirts for our teams and this year as we were the hosts of the final battle our Parents' Club made a donation for the refreshments. We also had many wonderful parent volunteers helping with set-up, serving and clean-up for our guests. We are very lucky at St. Tars that we have so many people willing to share their time and talents with us. Thank you to all who helped to make this day a success.
