SPRED PROGRAM

SPRED is a program which provides faith formation and sacramental preparation for children and adults with developmental disabilities. SPRED provides catechists one on one; one volunteer catechist for each of our special friends. SPRED is a community of friends who grow together in faith. SPRED builds a desire for, and an awareness of, God in our everyday life.

Special Religious Education for physically and/or mentally challenged children is available at St. Tarcissus parish for 6-10 year olds of all neighboring parishes and is available for older ages at other parishes in the Archdiocese.

Through play, visual symbols, hands on participation in different activities and song (done with gestures), God's little ones learn that there is a God who loves them and will be there for them. This is a path to the sacraments for God's special friends.

This Special Religious Education for God's special children, ages 6 - 10 with developmental disabilities needs a few more catechists to be a one-on-one "friend" to a special child. Special children need to know about God and His love for them. Help one special child learn about God in a way that he or she can understand. No experience necessary - will train.

We meet every other Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8 pm in our SPRED room in the Convent from September to May. There is no charge.
