Respect for Life

"Every Child… brings us God's smile and reminds us to recognize that life is His gift, a gift to be welcomed with love and preserved with care always and at every moment." - Pope Benedict XVI

Mission Statement

The Respect Life Committee exists to promote within our Church Community a culture where every human being is valued and protected from conception to the end of their natural life. We seek to create awareness of the life affirming position of the Roman Catholic Church regarding the most vulnerable. Ministry activities will respectfully promote education over protest, empathy over indifference and unity over division. We will strive to conduct events that aid and support human life.

In addition to 40 day of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion in America, please consider volunteering to pray outside of Family Planning Associates late-term abortion clinic (also known as Albany Abortion Clinic) at 5086 N. Elston Avenue in Chicago for one or more hours during the 40 days, and spread the word to others about this important life saving effort.

St. Tarcissus Parish will be sharing the leadership along with St. Thecla Parish on Tuesday, September 28 from Midnight to Midnight. Please save an hour or two on that date to join us at the Albany Clinic to give a peaceful, prayerful witness to the need to end abortion.

WEEKLY UPDATES FOR SPIRITUAL ADOPTION ˆ Back to Top

Spiritual Adoption WEEK 11

“I am tumbling around inside my mother and have noticed that there are more changes this week. I can now swallow fluid and even urinate. This is all just practice for my birthday. My internal organs are formed and most of them function fully. They just need more time to grow in size and efficiency. I’m starting to think about what my life will be like when I am born. For now, I am busy growing and resting and thanking God for the gift of life. Please keep praying for me."

By the way my birthday will be February 20, 2011.

What is Spiritual Adoption? Spiritual Adoption is a way to prayerfully bond to one particular, yet unknown baby as he/she begins the journey from conception to birth. Through Spiritual Adoption, you commit yourself to remembering that child in prayer for 40 weeks, thus "adopting" them until the day that they are born. This is a prayerful way to open our hearts to those who are voiceless and to be a strong witness to the sanctity of all life.

GIVE THE GIFT OF LIFE! - LIFESOURCE ˆ Back to Top

Brightening lives through blood donation means that recipients may have the gift of life and the promise of hope. 60% of the population is medically eligible to give blood, yet only 5% of the national population donates blood.

Please donate at the donor center near you and prepare yourself for the donation process by: eating well, drinking plenty of water, and bringing a photo ID. Visit www.lifesource.org or call 1-877-Lifesource to make an appointment or to find a donor center. Be sure to mention the following code when donating: J219 for St. Tarcissus Parish.

Let us pray that we always recognize in the frail bodies of our sick brothers and sister, no matter how ravaged by disease, our own divine image and our responsibilities.
