Lectors

It is the function of the Lector to proclaim the Word of God (First and Second Readings) and, in the absence of a deacon, offer the Prayers of the Faithful at Sunday and other selected special occasion Masses.

Any member of the parish, in the third year of high school or older, may become a Lector. Lectors are expected to combine both faith and skill when they proclaim the Word. A parish-based training and orientation class is required for this ministry. Each Lector will be asked to proclaim about twice a month. Schedules are prepared for two month periods and are made available two weeks before they are implemented. Requests are accepted concerning when you will and won’t be able to Minister.

There are two Lectors scheduled for most Masses. A workbook is provided so that the Readings may be prepared in advance. Lectors are responsible for finding a substitute for those times when they are unable to make an assignment.
