Ancient Egypt

the second grade is learning about ancient Egypt.   We went to the field museum to see a pyramid, mummies, and to get a sense of the lives of the early Egyptians.  We read a book about the jobs the Egyptians had and will write about what we would want to grow up to be.  We will write our name in hieroglyphics and design our own sarcophagus.

Butterflies!!

Our caterpillars have made their chrysalises.  We are so excited and are anxiously awaiting the emergence of our painted ladies.  We are doing many activities about butterflies including learning about their bodies and life cycle.

Charlotte’s web

We are enjoying listening to charlotte’s web.  Wilbur is so much fun and charlotte is so smart!  We made our own web.

Holy communion

we had a beautiful communion ceremony May 4.  the children worked hard at preparing for this important day.

Kindergarten

Reading buddies

Second graders visit the kindergarten to read to the children twice a month.  We have fun choosing and pre-reading books we think they will like.

Please do not send any type of medication (pills, ointments, creams…) to school with your child.  Refer to the handbook for more information.  If you have any questions, please call the school office.

If your child has had a bad or hectic morning, or is not feeling quite right, a quick note helps me know how to help set things right (or at least better).

Please make sure you keep the packet you received at f know and I will replace it for you.

Homework

I expect all homework to be checked and corrected.  Spelling homework has to be done in the spelling notebook.  Please check your child’s assignment notebook every evening.  It is difficult to explain and encourage a child to do his/her homework carefully if a parent shows no interest in the work.  Your child’s homework usually should not take more than 30 minutes.  If it does, please let me know.

*please check your child’s spelling Notebook as I sometimes write a Comment.

Please make sure your uniform, socks, and shoes are correct.  Check in our school calendar/handbook for st. tars uniform regulations.

***backless shoes and flip-flops are not allowed!
