Physical Education

May 2008

Please note that the gym uniform  is what is sold by Parents Club. The students may not wear their St. Tars team shirts, (for example, if they are on cross country they may not wear that shirt for gym class.) They may only wear the St. Tars t-shirt , shorts, and sweatpants sold by Parents Club. Thank You for your cooperation on this matter.

The eighth grade may wear their '08 shirts to gym class. They may not wear the sweats they received from the car wash. They have lost that privilege, since they wear them every day.

Welcome to Miss Jensen's Physical Education Page.  I have been a teacher at St. Tars for 18 years and enjoy working with all the students in grades K - 8. Below is the gym schedule for all grades:

Monday - Grades 4,5,6

Tuesday - Grades 4,5,6

Wednesday - Grades K, 1,  7 , & 8 (rm. 207)

Thursday - Grades 2  7 , & 8(Rms. 208 & 209)

Friday - Grades 3 & 8

Here is a brief look at what will be going on in physical education classes during the month of May:

Kindergarten - Grade 2 learn the major muscles of the body; we also play a lot of cooperative games and work on showing good sportsmanship.  This month we are working on baseball skills and eventually will have a few games .

Grade 3 is finishing up their soccer unit and then will begin playing baseball.

Grades 4-8 are playing a game that I made up called kickbasketball. It is a combination of kickball and basketball. They will then end with baseball.

All classes begin with warm-up exercises.  The younger students roll the exercise dice, which tells them what exercise they will be doing.  The older students each get a turn to lead the exercises.

Sportsmanship is very important to me and we are always working on showing good sportsmanship. Also if you haven't noticed, I am always concerned about the students safety. I am always adapting rules for safety reasons. I do my best to keep your children safe and injury free. Now if only I could keep myself injury free!!

If there are ever any questions, please feel free to call.  My school extension is 496 and my email address is jensenl@sttars.org.  I will do my best to get back to you as quickly as possible.  I do check my voice mail at least twice a day and try to check my email at least once.

Thanks,

             Miss Lori Jensen
