Welcome to the St. Tarcissus CATHOLIC
School Library
My name is Carol Mullins and I am the Library
coordinator for grades K-6. Students in grades K-3 have library once a week.
Students in grades 1-6 are allowed two books out at any given time. All library
books are due back on their scheduled library day.
K-Tuesdays (books due on Mon) 4th grade – 203 Mon & Thursday
1st grade – Thursdays 204 Mon & Friday
2nd grade – Wednesdays 5th grade – Wednesday & Friday
3rd grade - Mondays 6th grade – Tuesday & Friday
K-2 students will be learning basic library terms, such as author, illustrator, fiction/non-fiction, award winners and parts of books and how they are filed away. Grades 3-4 will always review and learn how to use the computerized card catalog.
Grades 5-6 are “Learning Something New” every time
they have library. We will research our school library and do many fun
brain-teaser exercises. There will be many units that will be coordinated with
their computer class.
Stories are read on a variety of topics,
friendship, Saints, Christianity and Holidays. Once a month each class LOVES to
play a good round of Brain Quest where all library terms, important people we
should know, news, events, and fun facts are incorporated in the game.
The Accelerated Reading Program is part of the
requirements for 4th, 5th, & 6th grade
students. The Reading teachers coordinate this program. There are over 700
titles here in our library for the students to choose from. Please note that
the Roden Public Library is available for assistance and has a copy of
our AR lists. Our school web site also lists all the titles.
Our school library also has a couple of copies of
each title for BATTLE OF THE BOOKS. Most 07-08 titles are now AR - students
will be notified.
PLEASE NOTE: The library is open for book exchange every morning from 7:45-8:05. Grades 4-6 are encouraged to use this time between their scheduled library periods. AR testing may also be done at this time.
The library will sponsor Shop & Share Days at Barnes & Nobel, Village Crossing on Saturday, December 1, 2007. - more info to following - via - folders.
Have a great school year!! 2007-2008
